Hello, and welcome!
ABOUT ME
I’m Dr. Julia Rios, a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of California. My areas of clinical specialty include depression, anxiety, trauma, neurodiversity, eating disorders, and addiction. In my private practice, I provide virtual psychotherapy for adults who reside in California. In addition to my private practice, I also practice, supervise, and teach as a clinical assistant professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. I primarily treat patients in the Adult Eating Disorders Clinic and the Addiction Medicine Dual Diagnosis Clinic.
I completed my PhD and clinical residency at the University of Michigan. My doctoral research focused on the shared etiological, behavioral, and neurobiological features of disordered eating and addiction pathology, particularly the role of dopaminergic reward pathways. I also used longitudinal research approaches to explore the bidirectional relationship between dietary restraint and nonrestrictive disordered eating symptoms during key periods of development.
My clinical training spans individual adult therapy, child and family therapy, couples therapy, neuropsychological testing (child, adolescent, and adult), and supervision of pre-licensed therapists in training. Following my predoctoral training and internship, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Stanford University School of Medicine where I continued specialty training for treating eating disorders, addictive disorders, and dual (co-occurring) diagnoses.
I am originally from the east coast and grew up in the DC area. Now I reside in the foggiest part of San Francisco. In my free time, I am usually reading novels, playing chess, or going on walks with my greyhound.
